2018 Woodard Veterans Day Writing Contest

October 25, 2018

Veterans Day Graphic

On Veterans Day we honor the men and women who have served in our armed forces. At Woodard, we have a writing contest which is a large part of our Veteran’s Day celebration. This year we will be asking any student who is interested to take this opportunity to demonstrate what they believe patriotism is and why we should celebrate and honor our veterans. The writing contest is open to all students, kindergarten through fifth grade.

Students can write a letter, essay, or poem at home. It must be an original piece written by the student and should not be longer than one page. They may include an illustration.

  • Contest entries are due to Mrs. Croft (Woodard Librarian) on Monday, October 29th by 4pm.
  • Five Finalists will be chosen and awarded a $10 Gift Certificate to the Woodard book fair in the spring. The finalists will also be able to read their piece during announcements the week of November 5-9 or during our Veteran’s Day program on November 9th.
Thank you for supporting our students in this great opportunity. We can’t wait to read the wonderful writing they create. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. You can email Mrs. Croft at [email protected]

Entry ideas:
  • Letters to a soldier thanking him/her for their service
  • Poems about patriotism or veterans
